Jack Strauss
Jack Strauss may not be a legendary poker player, but he has a story that will last the test of time in the World Series of Poker. Prior to making it to the final table in 1982, Jack Strauss went all-in, or so he thought, and lost. But when he was going to leave the table he discovered that he had overlooked one $500 chip. Since he had never said “all-in” he was allowed to continue the game. He then took that one chip and parlayed into the 1982 WSOP hold'em main event title.
In that storied finale, he beat Dewey Tomko in a head to head match-up. In the end, Jack Strauss overcame 102 entrants in the 1982 WSOP Main Event to win $520,000 and his second WSOP bracelet. He died in August 1988 at age 58 after suffering a heart attack during a high-stakes poker game at the Bicycle Club in Bell Gardens, California. Later that year, he was enshrined in the Binions Poker Hall of Fame. |
